Georgia is an open primary state. But in order to vote during the Democratic primary or to vote on party primary advisory questions, you must select the Democratic primary ballot either on your absentee ballot application or at your in-person polling location.
The election dates for 2022 are:
- Primary and Nonpartisan Election – May 21, 2022
- General Election – November 8, 2022
Primary Day and Election Day
On Primary Day or Election Day, the polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7pm, you must be allowed to vote. If you are voting absentee, your ballot must be received at the polling location by 7pm.
ID Requirements
If you go to vote at the polls, you’ll need to show photo ID. Any of the following will work:
- A Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired
- Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free ID Card issued by your county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
- Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state
- Valid U.S. passport ID
- Valid U.S. military photo ID
- Valid tribal photo ID
- A student ID with photo from a public (but not private!) college, university, or technical college.
New Registration? If you are a first time Georgia voter, you may need to take proof of where you live. Bring a copy of your lease, a bank statement, or a utility bill to prove you live and are entitled to vote where you are voting.
You do not need to bring your voter registration card and it cannot serve as your ID.
